I have a number of show's that I've uploaded and also some that I'ev downloaded that I'd like to backup. Is it posible to burn a DVD similar to a CDR data disk so it can be read as a data disk on a DVD-ROM drive? If possible, software recomendations would be greatly appreciated!

I also noticed (For the hardware junkies) the Sony DRU-710A is an internal Dual Layer DVD burner that ranges from abou $85 to $130 depending on where you shop....They also have an external model.

yes. i do this to backup my show recordings too. 4.7GB is how much each disk holds and they can be read as data disks ina DVD-ROM drive. there is a new 'dual layer' technology that is 9.6 GB per disk but the disks are more expenseive (and the burning / reading drive has to support them). as far as software? i just use nero, it came with my burner..

Question: If I have my collection backed up on CDRs, and only add to my back ups from time to time, is ther any benefit to re-archiving to DVDs? Are they easier to read, will they last longer?

Just wondering.

The advantage of DVD's over CDR's are as follows: Single Layer DVD's hold about 4.7Gig of Data and Duel Layer hold 8.5gig as opposed to 700MB on a CDR. Doesn't take a mathematician......

I can understand the math. What I meant was, are there any other benefits, outside of the obvious space savings.

it is my understanding that cd's and dvd's degrade at the same rate of time (~20-30 years?) with higher quality products / names lasting longer.
